Evony.com or why I’m quitting

I was passed this article and have finally made my decision to quit playing, wee.
The game is Evony, I've been playing for a couple weeks and feel I've come to the end; the game is decent, but starting to get boring now that accomplishing anything really takes an entire day or more of waiting ( and it just gets longer, way longer ), and lots of time searching for various objects that seem to be non-existent aside from the online shop that only accepts cash. The player vs player, or player vs computer is also very redundant; you 'spy' on the target, decide how many of your troops are needed and click attack; nothing more to it, repeat perpetually.
I've been doing my best to ignore the extreme push to spend real US dollars to purchase objects that enhance game play. The objects generally speed the game up for the player, but the part that really irks me is the objects called 'medals' that are required to advance in rank. At the start of the game these medals are given out like candy, and as you advance further they can only be obtained by winning computer generated battles at a rate of what seems to be less than 1%. If you don't wish to spend weeks of countless battles looking for these non-existent objects you could spend a few seconds buying them in the online shop for real US dollars, giving you a clear advantage in a game that is advertised as 'Free Forever'.
The real reason that pushed me to quit playing is the game's affiliation with a famous World of Warcraft gold farming company. For those who are unfamiliar with this, the companies basically hire Chinese workers for almost no pay to collect in-game currency and resell it for real world cash. The business model alone isn't what gets people in a tizzy, it's the conditions that the workers are put in and how they are treated. I know my word isn't worth much, but trust me anyone associated with these types of companies are complete scum and I will not be associated with them in any way.
Let's sum up what I don't like and why I'm quitting before I start on a real rant.
- Affiliation with a disgustingly inhuman company.
- Pushed to spend USD
- Boob advertising or overall 'sex sells' mentality that appears in the majority of all Evony ads; here are a few of the many ads that appear on family friendly sites:

Good luck to everyone, and Go Vikings ( server 24
)!
Edit: And awesome, now I get to play tag with Google's Adsense to try and block Evony and WoW gold farming ads.

I agree with you that their focus is on making money and not on making the game playable, as half the time I can't log in because it doesn't load properly, and it is frustrating that sometimes it feels like the only real way to progress is to spend money. It quickly stops becoming a game, and starts becoming a hobby.
All that combined with the abhorrent ads make me feel like I'm gaming with a seedier Larry Flint.
I understand completely your point of view and your reasons. Shoot me a PM in the game though with your mail address so we can keep in touch eh?
Btw, my reason for staying is that I made a commitment to our fellow alliance members and I enjoy the in-game chat more than the actual play...however this company will never see a penny of real $$$$ from me or mine.
ACK ... ACK and AAACK .. I had no idea about the WoW aspect (tho I had noticed the ads and the great influx of the dregs of society on servers who were (should I really say thinking ... no) *hoping* that the game was in some way a sex perv toy pickup site ... )
Weaw - I guess that'll leave more time for studying ... wee.
Thanks for the info !
@sm4k , that would be another reason, way too many bugs / bad calculations in a game they wish people to spend their money on.
@paladin , I garbled my password, no getting back in game for me
Good luck with the game everyone!
i undersand what ur saying and i dont argue your disicion
i hope to play other games with u
your (past) leader,
krusher
Was a fun time, Vikings was a great alliance to be a part of, hope the best for you all!
Well said! I especially like that you point out the sex appeal in those stupid ads. I really, really hate them, and it hurts my pride that I keep playing the game regardless of the way it degrades women and etc, etc. But as Paladin said, I feel bad leaving my alliance...they are all a great group of people. Really, the only reason I have played this long at all is because of the chat and the people, because the game itself is not at all that impressive.
This connection to the gold farming company has done it for me...I will definitely be quitting now.
Cheers for Wolves! Although Vikings were great, too
I agree - what a load of b*****s! There's a lot a repressed, sad people out there. Still, I suppose you get your kicks where you can. So long suckers
I came across this blog while researching a way to quit the game which is something I'd add to a don't like list of my own. The feature is on your profile yet it does not work nor has it ever.
I clicked on an ad a few months ago and our alliance has had quite a few discussions on how the ads have deterioted. And just you try saying two words in World Chat and you're spammed by all the boobs who joined because of the boobs.
It sucks that the company has such shady dealings but I would have guessed it after the first week of "BUY NOW" ads that were sent to my in-game inbox. The prices for items are not at all giving you a sale and there aren't consistent statistics to base your game play on. So as you said you can raid for objects for weeks (took me 2 months to gain honor medals).
As for your buds that have stayed because of their committment I'm sure by now that has changed. It was great in the begining especially because it was my first online RPG but I am soooo glad it's over
i want to know how to actualy quit the game and be droped from there all together any ideas? i know a lot of people trying to find a way out...... lol help.. dont send to e-mail not there
I just stopped logging in, but if you are addicted then it could be a little tough.
The easiest thing I can think to do is change the account email and do a hand sweep across the keyboard for your new password, that is if they even allow you to change it ( I'm sure they want you to keep coming back and do their best to stop you from locking yourself out ).
Good game in the short term but sucks up too much of my time and there is no easy way to continue without spending lots of money and too many kids who do not have a life are out there Playing this game
